North Bay, Ontario – (Wednesday, October 27th, 2021). Today, the North Bay Film Festival announced the film lineup for it’s 2021 edition. This year’s festival will run from November 12th – 14th with this year’s films being screened in an online format, with the exception of 2 in-person screenings and a trivia brunch at the Moose Cookhouse, hosted by Super Fun Time Trivia. All virtual film screenings are FREE and viewers are encouraged to donate what they can.

The North Bay Film Festival is celebrating 6 years of showcasing critical, engaging and entertaining cinema with a total of 11 feature films and 9 juried Canadian shorts.

The 2021 festival focuses on Canadian and Indigenous filmmaking including, ‘Wildhood’ a Two Spirit odyssey from writer/director/producer Bretten Hannam, ‘Portraits from a Fire’ a comedy by award-winning Tsilhqot’in filmmaker Trevor Mack, and the documentary ‘Mary Two-Axe Earley: I Am Indian Again’ by Mohawk filmmaker Courtney Montour. The festival is also thrilled to present ‘Best Sellers’, the feature debut of Canadian director Lina Roessler, starring Aubrey Plaza & Michael Caine.

The 2021 edition of the Festival begins Friday, November 12th at 12:30PM with a 2-Part program. Respect for Responsibility: A Jules Koostachin Retrospective, curated by Dr. Tyson Stewart of Nipissing University. This special retrospective brings together the powerfully eclectic works of Cree filmmaker Jules Koostachin for the first time. Through her singular cinematic lens, Koostachin weaves together themes of family, ceremony, and spirit while demonstrating a mastery of different film genres, including personal documentary, experimental film, reality TV, and culturally inspired fantasy.

This year we have 2 in-person screenings scheduled, which include a screening of the critically acclaimed Mogul Mowgli on Friday, November 12th at 8:00pm ET at the Capital Centre in Downtown North Bay. Mogul Mowgli is the debut narrative feature from award-winning documentary filmmaker Bassam Tariq. It follows the story of a rapper (Riz Ahmed) who, on the cusp of his first world tour, is struck down by an illness that forces him to face his past, his family, and the uncertainty of his legacy. Tickets will be sold through the Capitol Centre for $10.

Five Bucks at the Door: The Story of Crocks and Rolls will be screening Saturday, November 13th, at Gateway City Brewery. Directed by local filmmaker Kirsten Kosloski and filmed in Thunder Bay, Ontario, the documentary talks with seminal independent Canadian musicians each having a personal connection to the venue and its owner Frank Loffredo — who turned his family-owned Italian restaurant into a premiere Canadian venue. As per the title of the film, this screening will be available for only $5 at the door. Register in advance at nbff21.eventive.org to guarantee a seat.
