NORTH BAY FILM FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES SCHEDULE FOR NOV 17-19, 2023.

North Bay, Ontario – (Tuesday, November 7th, 2023) The North Bay Film Festival has announced the full schedule for its 2023 Festival, taking place November 17-19 at the historic downtown Capitol Centre. The 2023 edition of the festival promises an impressive showcase of critically acclaimed, award-winning films, including nine feature films and nine juried Canadian shorts. New this year, the festival is free for students!
Not-to-miss films at this year’s festival include: “Anatomy of a Fall,” winner of the prestigious 2023 Palme D’Or prize at the Festival de Cannes; “Past Lives,” winner of the 2023 Audience Award at Sundance Film Festival; and “Riceboy Sleeps,” winner of the Best Canadian Film Award by the Toronto Film Critics Association.
This year’s festival is set to open with a double-feature of “Blue Jean” and “My Animal,” two powerful films highlighting queer narratives and perspectives, exploring themes of identity, resilience, and love. The festival will also showcase 5 films made in Northern Ontario, including: the WWII survival narrative “The Boy in the Woods;” “Blooms,” a documentary exploring the history of Cobalt, Ontario; and the short film “Jerry Rigged,” directed by Derek Dino Diorio (Hard Rock Medical), starring Glenn Gould (Tulsa Kings, Outlander), and Eric Peterson (Corner Gas, Street Legal). “The Boy in the Woods” director Rebecca Snow will be in attendance for a Q&A after the screening on Sunday afternoon.
Additionally, audiences will be treated to the heart-pounding documentary “Aitamaako’tamisskapi Natosi: Before the Sun,” chronicling the inspiring journey of a young Siksika woman preparing for one of the world’s most daring horse races. Finally, on Sunday, experience Canadore College’s finest work as we showcase a specially curated program of award-winning student films crafted by graduates of their renowned Digital Cinematography Program.

Join us for a thought-provoking panel discussion and audience Q&A. This panel delves into the multifaceted world of the film industry, bringing together esteemed professionals from various sectors of the industry in North Bay. They will share their personal journeys, experiences, and invaluable insights into the art of getting employed and building a fulfilling career in film.
North Bay Film Festival’s Inaugural 48-Hour Film Competition
Films created in just 48 hours, following the theme “Modernized Folktale,” will be juried by a guest panel. The top 3 films will be featured on our festival website, and the winning film will be screened on the final evening of the festival.
