Winners Announced for the 2022 North Bay Film Festival!
North Bay Film Festival is delighted to announce the winners of our 2022 awards! Congratulations to “Rosie,” directed by Gail Maurice (@bgailmaurice), for receiving the Audience Choice Award. We extend our sincere gratitude to all the audience members who took the time to vote. Additionally, we are proud to present “Therefore, Socrates is Mortal” (Donc, Socrate est mortel), directed by Alexandre Isabelle, with the Best Canadian Short award. Finally, a hearty congratulations to “Omukama,” directed by Zane Klassen, for winning Best Student Short! Well done to all the winners for their exceptional achievements at this year’s festival.

An orphaned Indigenous girl is forced to live with her reluctant, street-smart, francophone aunty and her two gender-bending best friends in 80’s Montreal. Gail Maurice’s feature directorial debut, the film centres on Rosie (Keris Hope Hill), a young First Nations girl who is sent to live with her aunt Frédérique (Melanie Bray) in Montreal after her mother’s death, and learns the value of rebuilding chosen family.
