INAUGURAL 48-HOUR FILM COMPETITION SET TO IGNITE CREATIVE SPARK AT 8th ANNUAL NORTH BAY FILM FESTIVAL

(North Bay, ON, Thursday, September 28th 2023) The Near North Mobile Media Lab and North Bay Film Festival are thrilled to host their very first 48-Hour Film Competition, set to take place from November 3rd – 5th. The competition is open to filmmaking teams of all levels, from beginners to professionals. In this high-energy competition, teams are tasked with the exciting mission of crafting a short film within a tight 48-hour timeframe. But here’s the twist: participants must reimagine a traditional folktale while infusing their film with their own contemporary vision.

Participants will embark on an exhilarating journey as they race against the clock to bring their vision to life. The competition kicks off with an in-person launch event at 7pm on November 3rd in the Digital Creator Space, where teams will revisit the rules and count down to the official start of the competition. Participants will have technical support available to them throughout the weekend. To join in on this creative adventure, aspiring filmmakers are required to pay a registration fee of $20 per team and register by the October 27th deadline.

A panel of arts professionals will evaluate the submissions, and the top three films will be showcased in the Digital Creator Space during the North Bay Film Festival, running November 17-19 at the Capitol Centre, where festival attendees can cast their votes for the winning film, which will play on closing night. Prizes include cash awards, equipment rental credits, memberships to local arts organizations, and more, making this challenge a thrilling opportunity for filmmakers to showcase their talent and creativity.

“We are incredibly excited to introduce the inaugural North Bay 48-Hour Film Competition as part of our festival,” said Sharon Switzer, Executive Director of the Near North Mobile Media Lab. “This event is not only a celebration of the incredible talent and passion that exists in our local filmmaking community but also marks a significant milestone for our festival as we host our very first competition. It’s a unique opportunity for local and emerging filmmakers to showcase their creativity and storytelling abilities in a fun and fast-paced environment.”

This event provides a platform for artists to showcase their work, connect with fellow filmmakers, and potentially launch their careers in the industry.
