Last Moon

Set against the rugged Canadian frontier in the 1890s, Last Moon blends the atmosphere of a classic Western with the creeping dread of supernatural horror. In the feature directorial debut of writer-director Brandon D. Cox, Shawn Doyle stars as a former bounty hunter who has abandoned his violent past and assumed a new identity, seeking a peaceful life with his family on an isolated farm.

But that fragile peace is shattered when a terrifying creature emerges from the surrounding forest, leaving a widowed father and his young daughter struggling with an unimaginable loss. As they confront their grief and the sinister presence lurking beyond their home, the father’s troubled history threatens to catch up with him. Forced to confront the violence he thought he’d left behind, he soon discovers that the creature terrorizing his family may be connected to the brutal acts of his former life.

Combining the traditions of the Western with supernatural horror, Last Moon explores themes of grief, vengeance, guilt, and redemption. At its heart is the relationship between a father and daughter struggling to survive in the aftermath of tragedy, while confronting the consequences of a past that refuses to stay buried.

Filmed in and around Powassan, Ontario, during the summer of 2025, Last Moon features a cast including Colin Cunningham, Lora Burke, Morgan Bedard, Kayla Dumont, and Mina Borody. Borody also has a special connection to the North Bay Film Festival, having earned third place in our inaugural 48-Hour Film Competition in 2023.
