Free Screening and Workshop Kick Off North Bay Film Festival Opening Day
North Bay, Ontario (Thursday, November 7th, 2024) – The North Bay Film Festival is excited to offer a free screening of Sing Sing, an inspiring story about the transformative power of art within the prison system, on Friday, November 15th at 12:00 PM at the Capitol Centre. This critically acclaimed film, directed by Greg Kwedar, highlights the real-life arts rehabilitation program at Sing Sing Correctional Facility.
After the screening, attendees are invited to explore the world of animation at the Lakeside Animation Workshop from 3:00 PM to 5:30 PM at the Capitol Centre’s Betty Speers Theatre. Led by industry veterans Aron Dunn and Matt Lyon from Lakeside Animation Studios, this free, hands-on session offers insights into animation storytelling and career development. Open to all ages and skill levels, no drawing skills are required.
The excitement continues in the evening with our Opening Night Gala at 6:30 PM. Join us for the screening of The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal, a documentary by Mike Downie celebrating Canada’s beloved rock band. Special guest Bryn Hughes, the film’s producer, will be attending in person and participating in a Q&A after presenting the first two episodes of this documentary series.
A Gala Reception will follow the screening, this exclusive gathering in the Capitol Centre’s Spotlight Lounge on the 2nd floor is a perfect opportunity to celebrate, connect with fellow festival-goers, and raise a toast to a weekend of unforgettable cinema.
