FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

North Bay, Ontario (Thursday, October 30, 2025) – The North Bay Film Festival is rolling out the red carpet November 14–16 at the Capitol Centre, celebrating a decade of cinematic storytelling and community creativity with 12 feature films over 3 days.

Opening day, Friday, November 14, features Framed by the North: A Century of Stories — a special program celebrating films made in the North Bay area. The first screenings are free to attend, followed by North of Normal (dir. Carley Stone) and EVEL (dir. Derek Diorio), which includes a Q&A with Director Derek Diorio and cast. Together, these films highlight the region’s deep connection to film production and storytelling. The festival also continues its tradition of championing Canadian short films, with juried selections as well as a special retrospective program featuring award-winning short films from the festival’s first ten years.

The festival continues with an exciting lineup of acclaimed films. Highlights include a Gala Screening of Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein, partially filmed in North Bay, followed by a Q&A with FX/VFX Supervisor Bob Munroe. Festival pass holders are then invited to the Gala Reception in the Spotlight Lounge at 9:30 PM — a night to connect, celebrate, and raise a toast to ten years of film in the North.

The festival closes the weekend on a powerful note with It Was Just an Accident (dir. Jafar Panahi, Palme d’Or, Cannes) and No Other Choice (dir. Park Chan-wook, International People’s Choice, TIFF). The lineup also includes Sweetness (dir. Emma Higgins) and Blood Lines (dir. Gail Maurice) — both filmed in the North Bay area — each followed by Q&As with members of the film’s creative teams.

Adding to the festival experience, attendees can explore a special exhibit featuring screen-used items and replicas, offering a rare behind-the-scenes look at film production and artistry.

The festival is also presenting a Film Industry Event on Thursday, November 13 at West Ferris Secondary School, in partnership with CION and sponsored by Canadore College. Students will take part in hands-on learning, a special talk and screening, and conversations with Northern Ontario film professionals.
